Welcome to MACA - Madras Arts & Cultural Association

Madras Arts & Cultural Association, a.k.a. MACA. We're are a non-profit organization, based in Toronto, Canada, established to promote South Indian culture. We're one of the fastest growing and largest organizations in North America.
We try to meet the needs of every member in a family; whether you're a parent, who wants to network & socialize, or a grand parent interested in meeting the same age group or a teen waiting to discover your hidden talents, MACA provides you an opportunity to do so. Madras Arts & Cultural Association, a.k.a. MACA is a not-for-profit  organization, based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, established to promote South Indian culture & heritage. We're one of the largest South Indian organization in North America. MACA administration can be reached through their offices in Scarborough / Mississauga.


CULTURAL SCHOOL

MACA is successfully running Cultural School located in East and West end. Heritage and Language classes for children & youth is being conducted during weekend through Madras Cultural Academy


EVENTS.

MACA conducts year round programs.
The calendar below summarizes the major events of MACA through the year:

  • Tamil New Year celebrations (April)
  • Grand Annual Picnic for all the members.(July)
  • Language and Literary workshop – "Tamil Arangam" (Once in 3 months)
  • New Immigrant Seminars through MITRA Services (Twice a year)
  • Music programs for youth and members through  MACA Music (Every Month)
  • Study Circle meeting (Bhagavat Gita) at  Vedic Center, North York (Every Week)
  • Deepavali celebrations (October)
  • Christmas / New Year celebrations for children (December)
  • Yoga classes for public (every Weekend)
  • Talent Show for junior MACA members ( February)
  • Youth group network meeting, bowling – YUVNET, (Quarterly)
  • Free Tamil movies for members ( Once in 3 months)

GOVERNANCE

An Executive Committee of 14 elected members governs MACA. The committee elects office bearers lead by President. The Secretary assisted by Joint Secretary takes care of the administrative aspects while the Treasurer supported by the Joint Treasurer looks after the financial and accounting matters. The President and the Vice-President provide leadership. The Executive Committee meets once in two months. The day-to-day decisions are debated through MACA
Yahoo e-group. Need based sub-committees are formed with representation from Executive Committee and members. An election process defined in the Constitution of MACA is adhered to.


COMMUNICATIONS

MACA has configured a web portal to interact with the members. The web portal maintenance costs are met out of web advertisements from sponsors. The portal is an active link for networking as it has features like Forums, Classifieds (members can post their message directly ) , useful links etc. Event calendars are published well in advance on the portal, in addition to direct e-bulletins sent to the members.
The web portal has been integrated with PAYPAL to facilitate collection of existing membership subscriptions, registration of new members and event proceeds. The web portal also carries appropriate sections highlighting the various facets of MACA. Members can communicate with the Executive committee through macafamily@gmail. com . The Executive committee members are also available on phone and personal emails year -round.


VOLUNTEERS

The strength of MACA is its volunteering community. More than hundred dedicated volunteers are available year- round. Be it a music program or an annual picnic, volunteers flock to support the community. MACA encourages youth volunteers to play key roles in all their events. Volunteer hours are given for high school credits.
