 MACA`s TAMIL COMPOSERS CONCERT

Sri Nagabooshani Temple – Scarborough

MACA’s Tamil Composers Concert’s first event in the series was held on Sunday June 3, Sunday at 2:00PM at Sri Nagabooshani Temple, 1830, Ellesmere Road, Scarborough M1H2V5.

 

Concert 1 

Selvi Shradda Ganesh rendered the composition of Smt. Ambujam Krishnan accompanied by Sri Maiyuran Gireedharan on Violin & Sri Shyam Chanthirakumar on Mrdangam. 

 

Ambujam Krishna (1917 - 1989) graduated from Delhi University with a degree in Home Science. She was the daughter-in-Law of the Chennai Industrialist T.V.Sundaram Iyengar. An extremely pious individual and an ardent lover of the arts, she composed in Sanskrit, Tamil & Telugu. Her songs are noted for their imagination, chaste language, clarity of thought and inspired spontaneity. Her approximately 600 songs have been set to tunes by many well-known vidwans like T.N.Seshagopalan, V.V.Sadagopan, Dr.S.Ramanthan, Madurai N.Krishnan, K.R.Kedaranathan, Semmangudi Shrinivasa Iyer and others who have brought out the bhava of the songs beautifully.

 

Concert 2 

Selvi Thakshana Srinathan  rendered the composition of  Sri. Koteeswara Iyer accompanied by Sri Maiyuran Gireedharan on Violin &  Sri Thayallan Srinathanon Mrdangam.

 

Koteeswara Iyer (1869 - 1938), studied music under Poochi Srinivasa Iyengar and Patnam Subramania Iyer He composed mainly in the Tamil language. He has worked as an English Professor in Mylai Venkatramana Dispensary Ayurveda College and Mylai Sanskrit college. Later, he worked as an English translator in the Madras High Court.He is one of the first who composed songs in all the 72 melakartha ragas. His contribution to the illustration of vivadhi ragas is invaluable.
